 Animator Friz Freleng introduced the character in 1945 in the short cartoon Hare Trigger. In two early gags in the episode he is attempting to rob a train.He was created to be a stronger enemy for Bugs Bunny "Na what's up Doc?"Elmer Fudd was the only enemy bugs had, and he was so dimwitted that Freleng wanted to create a more smarter enemy.  Over the years there has been many voices to create Yosemite Sam. Freleng wanted a sinster character so he looked to Mel Blanc. With doing most of the Looney toons voices he said he would try.Mel wanted to make his voice very loud and rough. He would have to record Sam last because he didn't want all the other characters to be sounding horse. Eventually after many years of doing Sams voice he gave it to Joe Alaskey because it was just getting to be to much for him. Sam was one of the only characters that Blanc gave to someone else to do while he was still alive.The pictue to the right was taken in his office between the 1950's through the 1960's. The Loony toon characters were put in the pictue with him later. All those characters in the picture are the characters that he voiced during his life time.
